Wellington, New Zealand was named after Arthur Wellesley, the first Duke of Wellington. He hails from the town of Wellington in Somerset, England. A traditional name for Wellington, Te Upoko-o-te-Ika-a-Maui literally means The Head of the Fish of Maui.
